Hungarian International Aid has been implementing humanitarian and development programmes in Afghanistan since 2001. In addition to humanitarian aid, HIA’s objective is to achieve, through its permanent local office, long-term sustainable results in the areas of education, rural development, health care and capacity building.
HIA directly assisted 2,216,307 people since 2001.
Project locations: various districts of Baghlan, Balkh, Jawzjan,
Samangan, Sari-Pul, Faryab, Takhar, Badakhshan, Paktika and Badghis provinces.

Humanitarian assistance
- Distribution of food) and non-food items over 45,000 tons
- Humanitarian assistances for flood and earthquake affected population in different provinces
- Food and cash for work programmes (Cash based support provided in the value of more than 15,000,000 USD)

Rural Development & Livelihoods
- Establishment and development of farmer co-operatives and small-scale enterprises, provision of instruments, training of employees, transfer of technologies, starting the production

- Complex waste management programme
Education
- (Re)construction and equipping 16 schools in Northern Afghanistan
- Construction of Technical school and hostel
- Strengthening the infrastructural background of educational institutions (construction of latrines, surrounding walls)
- Distribution of school kits, school feeding programmes
- Vocational training courses in various sectors
Healthcare
- (Re)construction of Basic Health Centres
- Hygienic trainings, distribution of hygienic items
- Distribution of medicine, medical equipment
Capacity Building
- Development of local capacities of state and non-state actors
- Capacity development for specific target groups
